Keeping ourselves safe

Today Constable Amanda talked to us about cyberbullying. Our class was shown a dvd about text and internet bullying. We learnt that if you let the problem get too big then it will be harder to fix, so it is a better option to tell a grown up you trust straight away so it doesn't escalate. We also learnt about some of the ways you can help and improve the problems and to help protect ourselves on the internet and on our phones. These are some of the ways we can stop the problem in its tracks.

(1)
Tell a trusted and respected adult as soon as the messages start coming amd show them what has been sent to you.

(2)
Don't delete any of the messages you receive so you can then show a trusted adult.

(3)
When signing up to websites like Facebook,Myspace, and Bebo put on a thing called block it ensures noone but your friends can talk to you and see your page.On sites like moshimonsters and others you can select block by hovering over their picture and selecting the block sign but don't just delete them as on moshimonsters you can add messages to your request which is another way of bullying, so block them and be done. A good site for parents to look at is www.netsafe.org.nz
